The global foldable smartphone market grew by 49% year-over-year in Q1 2024, the highest increase in six quarters. This growth was driven mainly by Chinese OEMs, with Huawei overtaking Samsung in global shipments for the first time. Huawei’s transition to 5G foldables led to a 257% YoY growth. The Mate X5 and the Pocket 2 were significant contributors. HONOR and Motorola also saw significant growth in overseas markets. Book-type foldables accounted for 55% of global shipments, surpassing clamshell types for the first time since 2021. The clamshell market is expected to grow with new launches from Samsung, Huawei, HONOR, and Xiaomi.
