Apple isn’t paying OpenAI for the ChatGPT deal

A recent report reveals that Apple isn’t paying OpenAI for integrating ChatGPT into its devices later this year. Instead, Apple is leveraging the exposure it offers to OpenAI. While Apple Intelligence handles on-device and more complex tasks via Private Cloud Compute, requests beyond these capabilities will be redirected to ChatGPT, using OpenAI’s servers. Apple users will see ChatGPT’s name frequently, as Siri requests may be passed to it after user permission. This partnership provides OpenAI with significant exposure and potential upselling opportunities, despite not receiving direct payment from Apple.
