The European Union has reached an agreement with Apple to allow third-party payment platforms access to its NFC system for the next ten years, but only in the 27 EU member countries. This decision prevents the EU from fining Apple. Currently, the tap-to-pay NFC function is exclusive to Apple Pay in other markets. The formal settlement will be presented soon, enabling platforms and banks to use their own payment apps without requiring users to enter their information into Apple Wallet.
