Google will not return a device with non-OEM parts

Last week, Samsung was criticized for requiring independent repair shops to report customers using non-OEM parts. Now, Google faces similar backlash. Google’s self-repair program for Pixel devices includes a clause stating that if a device sent for repair contains non-OEM parts, Google will keep the device. This policy, in effect since July 2023, has sparked online outrage, with critics accusing Google of anti-consumer behavior and undermining the right to repair. Similar practices are noted in Samsung and Apple’s policies, raising concerns about the true intent behind self-repair programs.
