A year ago, I questioned the future of the Siri watch face amidst the introduction of watchOS 10 and Apple Watch widgets. Historically, Apple has never retired a watch face, but the Siri watch face, now six versions old, seemed at risk of becoming obsolete.
As of now, the Siri watch face has indeed been replaced by a smarter Smart Stack in watchOS 11. This new system offers time- and location-based widgets, Live Activities, music detection with Shazam, and various other widgets. The Smart Stack can be accessed with a double-tap gesture, which was never effective on the Siri face.
My conclusion a year ago was that the data sources from the Siri face should become widgets, with the Siri face evolving into a dedicated widget watch face. This has come to fruition in watchOS 11. The Siri watch face served its purpose from 2017 to 2024. Now, we look forward to further integration of Apple Intelligence, perhaps even Siri with ChatGPT, in future updates.
