Google and Meta employees secret alliance targeted ads toward minors

Google employees reportedly collaborated with Meta staff to bypass Google’s own rules against targeting ads at users under 18. They exploited a user category labeled “unknown,” which typically includes users whose age is not identified, to funnel Instagram ads on YouTube that likely targeted teens. This workaround, allegedly motivated by declining ad revenues and user migration to TikTok, was part of a marketing campaign in Canada and the U.S. The campaign has since been shut down, and Google is investigating the matter, reaffirming its ban on personalized ads for minors.
