A newly discovered bug can cause iPhones and iPads to briefly crash when specific characters are typed. Entering “”: followed by any character in the Search bar or App Library search bar triggers the crash, causing the device’s interface, Springboard, to reload to the lock screen. Security researchers confirmed that the bug is not a security threat, and there’s no indication it can be exploited remotely. Apple has not commented on the issue.
