Google is off the hook for a 2019 €1.49 billion EU fine

Google recently dodged a €1.49 billion antitrust fine in the EU. The fine, issued in 2019 by the European Commission, accused Google of limiting competition in online advertising. The European General Court ruled in favor of Google’s appeal, finding that the EC didn’t fully assess all relevant circumstances. While this decision gives Google temporary relief, the European Commission may still appeal. Meanwhile, Qualcomm, facing a similar issue in Europe, managed to reduce its fine from €242 million to €238.7 million after an appeal.
