Global smartphone shipments rose 5% year-over-year in Q3 2024, reaching 309.9 million units—the best Q3 since 2021. Samsung led with 57.5 million shipments, followed by Apple with a record 54.5 million units, driven by the iPhone 16’s launch in emerging markets.
Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo rounded out the top five, each performing well in Asia Pacific. Apple’s success came from supply chain improvements and local production in India, though future growth may be challenged by geopolitical issues. Intense competition at the low end persisted, with OPPO and Xiaomi focusing on mid-tier markets for sustained growth. Canalys expects continued growth, with emerging markets and premium segments as key drivers into 2025.
