The Android 16 codename is Baklava

Google still uses dessert codenames for Android internally, even though they’re no longer public. Android 15 is codenamed “Vanilla Ice Cream,” and the upcoming Android 16 will be called “Baklava,” breaking the alphabetical pattern that started in 2009.

This shift is linked to Google’s recent changes in Android’s development process, particularly with the “trunk stable project,” which altered build ID naming. As a result, Android 16’s build IDs will start with “B,” explaining the use of “Baklava” instead of a dessert starting with “W.”
