A US District Court recently ruled Google as a “monopolist” for violating antitrust laws by maintaining its dominance as the default search engine on devices and browsers. In response, the Department of Justice (DoJ) has proposed remedies, including separating Android, Chrome and Google Play from Google to prevent unfair advantages for its search business.
The DoJ also wants to restrict Google’s contracts and data practices, allowing websites to opt out of Google’s AI training and prevent Google from using its products to suppress competition. Google argues these measures could harm consumers and raise costs, setting the stage for a prolonged legal battle.
