Apple invests $1.1b in satellite services provider Globalstar

Apple has committed $1.1 billion to expand satellite provider Globalstar’s infrastructure, including a $400 million equity deal that gives Apple a 20% stake in Globalstar. This investment will enhance Globalstar’s ability to support Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite service.

It’s unclear if Apple will charge for satellite messaging after the free period ends.
