The EU has launched an antitrust investigation into Corning over its market dominance and alleged anti-competitive practices with its Gorilla Glass brand. In response, Corning proposed commitments to address these concerns, including:
- Ending exclusivity clauses in contracts with OEMs and finishers.
- Allowing glass finishers to source less than half their supply from Corning without penalties.
- Ensuring OEMs in the EEA can freely choose suppliers without losing price advantages.
- Avoiding patent misuse to enforce exclusivity agreements.
These global commitments will last nine years, with oversight by a monitoring trustee. The EU is seeking stakeholder feedback on the proposals, which could set a precedent for handling antitrust issues.
