Google launched Android 16 Developer Preview

Google has released the first Developer Preview of Android 16, following its announcement of an earlier-than-usual stable release, now expected in Q2 2025. Developer Previews are early, bug-filled versions intended for developers to test apps ahead of public beta releases. Currently, it’s available for recent Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6 series and newer.

Key features in Android 16 DP1 include enhanced Photo Picker APIs for better app integration while maintaining privacy, updated Health Connect to handle electronic health records (EHRs) securely and improvements to the Privacy Sandbox for managing third-party tracking.

Public betas will begin in January 2025, with a stable release likely by mid-2025. The Pixel 10 series might be the first phones to launch with Android 16 pre-installed. Google also plans a minor Android SDK update in Q4 2025.
