Google Messages app will warn users about sensitive content

As the internet plays a central role in daily life, keeping minors entirely offline isn’t practical. Instead, parents should guide their children’s online activity. Android parental controls help limit app and content access, but can’t fully prevent risks like minors sending or receiving explicit images. To address this, Google is introducing Sensitive Content Warnings in its Messages app. This feature blurs potential nudity and provides warnings before viewing or sending such content. It will be opt-out for minors and optional for adults, running on devices with Android 9 or later.

The system is powered by a new app, Android System SafetyCore, designed to offer privacy-focused, on-device protection. Google plans to extend these features beyond phones, possibly to platforms like Google TV. These updates aim to enhance user safety and could inspire similar tools across other messaging apps.
