Google says it will stop serving political ads in the EU

Google will stop showing political ads in the European Union next year, citing challenges with the bloc’s new Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulations. Set to take effect in October 2025, the rules aim to prevent election interference by requiring clear labeling of political ads and restricting targeting practices.

Google argues that the TTPA’s broad definition of political ads creates operational and legal uncertainties, making compliance difficult across different EU regions. Similar concerns previously led Google to halt political ads in France, Canada and Brazil. The company plans to provide more details on the timing of its EU ban next year.
