Samsung, Motorola, Google and others dominate the foldable phone market today, but the first foldable smartphone was launched by Royole Technologies, a Chinese OEM, in 2018. Despite its pioneering FlexPai device and innovations in foldable displays, Royole was recently declared bankrupt due to financial struggles. Founded in 2012, the company also introduced the thinnest flexible display, curved car dashboards and smart writing pads, but its achievements couldn’t offset mounting debts, leading to its liquidation.
