Apple’s latest patent, US 12,164,344, details a hinge system for foldable devices, using interconnected “fingers” and crescent-shaped slots to enable smooth rotation. This design ensures equal hinge rotation on both sides and allows the device to maintain a desired angle.
The patent applies broadly to phones, tablets, laptops and wearables, hinting at potential future products. Despite ongoing patents, Apple has yet to release a foldable device, reportedly facing technical challenges in developing displays and hinges. Analysts speculate its first foldable could be a flip iPhone or larger iPad/MacBook.
