Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch update, based on Wear OS 5, introduces a new “Watch Face Format” to improve battery life. However, this change makes many older watch faces incompatible, affecting devices like the Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6, 7 and Ultra.
The updated format, co-developed by Samsung and Google, removes executable code from watch faces, disabling those that don’t meet the new standards. Popular apps like Facer are currently incompatible with Wear OS 5, though efforts are underway to adapt. Users may notice some watch faces no longer work after updating.
