Apple is reportedly planning to add satellite-based messaging to the 2025 Apple Watch Ultra, making it the first mainstream smartwatch with off-network texting. This feature, similar to what Apple introduced with the iPhone 14, would allow users to send messages via satellite in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, ideal for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Additionally, Apple is working on integrating blood pressure monitoring into its watches in 2024, providing general alerts for elevated readings rather than precise measurements. These updates aim to position the Apple Watch as a robust health and safety tool while reviving slowing smartwatch sales.
The 2025 Apple Watch Ultra may also include 5G connectivity, as Apple considers switching to MediaTek modems. The watch is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.
