Samsung is reportedly considering removing the digitizer from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to create a thinner and sleeker design, according to ET News. This change would eliminate the current S Pen input method, electromagnetic resonance (EMR), and potentially replace it with active electrostatic (AES) technology, similar to Apple’s Pencil.
While AES allows for thinner devices, the stylus would require a battery and couldn’t be stored inside the phone. The move follows Samsung’s experiments with the slimmer Galaxy Z Fold SE, which also lacked pen functionality. A final decision on the design is expected early next year.
Although some users may miss the integrated S Pen slot, the trade-off could result in a lighter, more competitive foldable phone.
