Eighteen years ago today, Steve Jobs unveiled the revolutionary iPhone, combining a phone, widescreen iPod and internet communicator into one device, redefining mobile technology. The event also introduced pre-orders for the Apple TV, originally called iTV, which later changed due to a trademark dispute.
The original press release called the iPhone “five years ahead of any other mobile phone,” and its impact has only grown since. Notably, Apple also reached a trademark agreement with Cisco for the iPhone name in early 2007.
Apple’s evolution is reflected in its press release boilerplate, which has shifted from highlighting Macs and iPods to showcasing a broader ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad and services like Apple TV+ and Vision Pro.
