A lawsuit has been filed against Apple in California, alleging that three Apple Watch bands—the Sport band, Ocean band and Nike Sport band – contain toxic “forever chemicals” (PFAS). These synthetic chemicals, linked to health risks such as cancer and hormone disruption, are found in various products, including non-stick cookware and water-resistant clothing.
Apple has stated that its watch bands are safe and undergo rigorous internal and independent testing. In 2022, Apple pledged to phase out PFAS but acknowledged the challenges in eliminating them entirely. Other smartwatch brands, including Samsung and Google, also face scrutiny for using PFAS in their products.
This lawsuit follows similar legal action against Samsung, raising concerns over wearable manufacturers’ continued use of these harmful chemicals.
