Gemini is now enabled by default instead of Bixby on Galaxy S25 phones

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 now allows users to summon Google Gemini as the default digital assistant via the power button, marking a shift from Bixby’s long-standing role since 2017. While Bixby remains available for Samsung-specific tasks like managing the Calendar, Gemini handles broader functions like searches. Samsung emphasizes that both assistants work contextually based on user needs.

Previously, accessing Gemini required specific settings or modules, but the S25 simplifies this with Gemini set as the default. Gemini also gains new features, including action chaining across apps like Maps, Messages and even Samsung’s own Reminders and Calendar. This integration will extend to older Samsung devices supporting Gemini.

Though Bixby will continue to exist and power some backend AI features, Samsung is clearly prioritizing Gemini as its main virtual assistant moving forward.
