Oracle and Microsoft are reportedly in talks to take over TikTok

Oracle and a group of investors, including Microsoft, are reportedly in talks to take over TikTok’s global operations, according to NPR. The deal would allow ByteDance to retain a minority stake, while Oracle oversees the app’s algorithm, data collection and updates. The White House is involved in negotiations, though President Trump denied working with Oracle specifically.

Trump stated he is considering offers from “substantial people” and will decide within 30 days, emphasizing the goal of reducing Chinese ownership. Other potential buyers reportedly include Elon Musk and Frank McCourt. Oracle already supports much of TikTok’s server network, making it a key player in ensuring oversight.

This follows Trump’s executive order requiring ByteDance to divest from TikTok, giving the company a 75-day reprieve from enforcement. Microsoft’s exact role in the talks remains unclear, and Walmart is not involved due to cost concerns.
