TikTok may face a complete shutdown in the US on Sunday, January 19, following a potential nationwide ban, according to The Information. Users could lose access entirely, with new downloads also blocked on app stores unless the Supreme Court intervenes.
If the ban occurs, TikTok will display a pop-up directing users to a site with shutdown details and allow them to download their data. The ban stems from a law requiring ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to sell its US operations to an American company. Despite rumors of a possible sale, TikTok has denied any such plans. Many users are now turning to alternative apps in preparation.
