Apple’s Find My network helps users track devices like iPhones and AirTags, but a newly discovered exploit could let hackers misuse it to track any Bluetooth device, including Android phones.
Researchers from George Mason University found that the nRootTag exploit tricks Find My into identifying Bluetooth devices as AirTags, allowing hackers to track them without the owner’s knowledge. It has a 90% success rate and can pinpoint locations within 10 feet in minutes.
Apple was alerted in July 2024 but hasn’t fixed the issue yet. Until then, users should be cautious of apps requesting unnecessary Bluetooth access and keep their devices updated.
