AT&T and Verizon connect first cellphone-to-satellite video calls

Verizon and AT&T have achieved milestones in cellphone-to-satellite video calls using AST SpaceMobile’s satellites. Verizon completed its first such call, while AT&T did so using satellites intended for commercial use. This positions them as competitors to T-Mobile’s satellite-to-cell service with SpaceX. Both tests used AST’s BlueBird satellites, launched last September, with AT&T’s first test dating back to June 2023.
