Microsoft announces quantum computing breakthrough

Microsoft has unveiled the Majorana 1 processor, a breakthrough in quantum computing that could scale to 1 million qubits on a single chip. Unlike traditional qubits, Majorana 1 uses Majorana particles and a new material called a topoconductor to create more stable qubits. Microsoft’s research, published in Nature, highlights the potential for quantum computers to drive advancements in medicine, materials science and more. The company has been selected by DARPA to build a fault-tolerant quantum prototype within years, marking a major step toward practical quantum computing.
