EU says ok to port-less devices

Apple reportedly considered making the iPhone 17 Air its first port-less device, but decided to keep USB-C for now, possibly due to concerns over EU regulations. However, EU officials confirmed that a wireless-only device is compliant with the rules, as USB-C is only required for wired-charging devices.

While the iPhone 17 Air will still have a USB-C port, future models, like the iPhone 18 Air, could go fully wireless. With Qi2 wireless charging (essentially an upgrade of Apple’s MagSafe) becoming standard, a port-less iPhone seems inevitable.
