Google Maps blocked 12 million fake businesses

Google is removing 10,000 fake business listings from Google Maps and suing scammers who created them for profit. The lawsuit was prompted by a Texas locksmith reporting an impersonation. Scammers use fake listings to overcharge customers or trick them into paying for nonexistent services. In 2023, Google blocked 12 million fake profiles and continues to crack down on fraudulent engagement tactics. The company is also enforcing stricter rules in the UK to combat deceptive reviews.
