The new Pebble smartwatches are coming later this year

Eric Migicovsky, the creator of Pebble, is launching two new smartwatches under his company, Core Devices. Though not named Pebble, they retain the same design, features and software.

The first, Core 2 Duo, priced at $149 and shipping in July, is essentially a Pebble 2 remake with a 30-day battery life, a speaker and the same black-and-white e-paper display. It even uses leftover Pebble parts.

The second, Core Time 2, arriving in December for $225, updates the Pebble Time 2 with a touchscreen while keeping the classic button-based interface, long battery life and customization options.

Challenges remain, including iPhone compatibility and potential cost increases due to tariffs. But for Migicovsky, this is a passion project, not a mass-market play.
