US passport can be added to Google Wallet

Google Wallet introduced ID Pass in late 2024, allowing users to add their US passport as a digital ID. While it doesn’t replace a physical passport, it can be used at TSA checkpoints for domestic travel as a Real ID alternative. Users can tap their phone or present a QR code at security. However, it can’t be used for international travel or fully replace a passport in all situations.

Adding a passport takes about 3 minutes by scanning the front page, using NFC for the back and completing a face scan. As digital IDs become more widely accepted, this feature adds convenience for travelers.
