European Commission fines Apple and Meta over breached DMA rules

The European Commission has fined Apple €500 million and Meta €200 million for violating the Digital Markets Act. Apple was penalized for restricting app developers from promoting alternative platforms and offers, while Meta’s “pay or consent” ad model on Facebook and Instagram failed to provide a fair alternative for users who don’t want personalized ads. Both companies have 60 days to comply, though Apple plans to appeal, and Meta is expected to do the same.
