Verizon’s $20 billion acquisition of Frontier has been approved by the FCC, allowing Verizon to expand its fiber network to 1 million homes annually, including rural areas. The deal was cleared after Verizon agreed to end all DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) practices, including removing related roles, training materials, and diversity goals. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr had criticized Verizon’s DEI policies and hinted future deals could be blocked over such issues. The merger also helps Verizon regain fiber assets it sold to Frontier in 2015.
