At Computex, Foxconn chairman Young Liu warned that generative AI and robotics could soon replace low-wage human labor on assembly lines. Already, AI handles 80% of Foxconn’s production setup tasks faster than humans. Liu sees this shift as a challenge for low-GDP countries and urged developed nations to prepare. Foxconn is also developing its own AI model, “FoxBrain,” to automate shop-floor tasks. This move toward automation could eventually reduce Apple’s reliance on cheap labor in China, but replicating China’s manufacturing scale elsewhere remains difficult.
