Google announced a bold new look for Android

Google has officially unveiled a bold new design for Android called Material You Expressive, an evolution of the colorful Material You from Android 12. This updated look features vibrant colors, playful animations, bold fonts and greater customization – aimed at appealing to a younger audience. It will roll out later this month with the Android 16 beta.

Also included is Live Updates, Android’s version of Apple’s Live Activities, offering real-time info for navigation, food delivery and rideshare apps. Quick settings are getting more customizable too.

While flashy visuals are front and center, Google emphasizes this isn’t just aesthetic – the design helps guide user attention and interaction. Still, whether it’s enough to sway iPhone-loving teens remains to be seen.
