FCC approved T-Mobile’s $4.4 billion acquisition of US Cellular

The FCC has approved T-Mobile’s $4.4 billion acquisition of most of US Cellular, following DOJ approval. The deal includes $2.4 billion in cash, $2 billion in debt, 4 million customers, retail stores, and spectrum assets. Unlike typical mergers, the FCC imposed no conditions. While T-Mobile says US Cellular customers won’t see immediate changes, critics — especially rural advocates — worry about reduced competition and roaming support. The merger is expected to close in the coming months, with noticeable changes likely by late 2025.
