Tinder is testing mandatory facial recognition in California to fight fake profiles and impersonation. New users must complete a “Face Check” video selfie to confirm their face matches profile photos, earning a verified badge. The system also checks for duplicate accounts using the same face. Unlike ID Check, Face Check doesn’t require government ID. Tinder deletes the video after verification but keeps an encrypted face map to detect future misuse. The feature has shown promising results in Canada and Colombia, and may expand across the U.S. based on user response.
