Smartwatch stress scores are often way off

A new study of 800 young adults found that smartwatches, like the Garmin Vivosmart 4, often misread stress levels, confusing excitement with anxiety and showing “basically zero” correlation with users’ actual feelings. Fatigue tracking was slightly better, while sleep tracking was the most accurate for duration, not restfulness. Researchers warn these are consumer gadgets, not medical tools, and stress scores should be seen as rough guides rather than precise measures of mental state.
