Google has released Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2 for Pixel devices ahead of the stable December rollout. This update focuses on polish but adds key features, including:
Icon shape customization – long-awaited personalization option.
New security measure – 3-hour delay for SMS retriever hash messages to prevent OTP hijacking (with system app exceptions).
Developer tools – new APIs for app verification and an ADB command to simulate outcomes.
Performance boost – new Generational CMC Garbage Collector for smoother performance and better battery life.
Health Connect updates – automatic step tracking and expanded exercise data types (weight, set index, RPE).
This follows QPR2 Beta 1’s bigger feature drop and sets the stage for Android 16 QPR2’s stable release in December.
