Apple responds to iPhone 17 Pro scratch and durability concerns

The iPhone 17 Pro is facing “scratchgate” concerns after demo units showed marks near the MagSafe cutout. Apple says these aren’t scratches but material transfer from worn store stands, which can be cleaned.

Durability testing shows the camera plateau edges are more prone to scratches due to design, though the rest of the phone, including the body and Ceramic Shield 2 display, is highly resistant. Apple notes the new aluminum frame trades some durability for better cooling, efficiency and lighter weight.

Overall, the iPhone Air and iPhone 17 lineup remain strong in durability, with Apple recommending cases for extra protection.
