Microsoft is turning Foxconn’s empty buildings into AI data centers

Microsoft is building the $3.3B Fairwater AI data center in Wisconsin, set to go online in early 2026 on the former Foxconn factory site. Spanning 1.2M sq ft across three buildings, it will house hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GB200 GPUs, connected by enough fiber to circle the Earth 4.5 times.

Microsoft says Fairwater will be 10× more powerful than the fastest supercomputer and will massively boost AI training. The site uses a closed-loop cooling system to minimize water waste and more Fairwater centers are already under construction across the US.
