Xiaomi is skipping the “16” generation and will launch the Xiaomi 17 series this month to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup. The series — including the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max — will debut Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and feature major battery upgrades (up to 7,500 mAh on the Pro Max). Xiaomi says the move marks its biggest step yet in the premium smartphone market, with R&D investment set to double over the next five years. The 17 Pro Max is expected to be the most powerful Xiaomi flagship to date, possibly with a secondary display.
