Android Auto is preparing to add home screen widgets

Android Auto is preparing to add home screen widgets, letting users place widgets from mobile apps directly on the car’s dashboard. The feature, codenamed “Earth,” is still in beta (version 5.6.154404), but it already allows one widget to appear on a split home screen — about 35–40% of the screen width.

Users can pick a widget via Settings > Customize Earth, choose from compatible apps (like Spotify, Clock, Pixel Weather, or Gemini), and adjust its size with a slider. Currently, only one widget can be active at a time, and many apps don’t yet function properly, often showing a “can’t be accessed” warning.

While still limited and inconsistent, widgets like Pixel Weather and Clock Stopwatch work well, hinting that Android Auto’s new widget system is on the way to becoming a customizable dashboard feature in future updates.
