Apple is reportedly close to finalizing a $140 million-per-year deal for exclusive U.S. Formula 1 streaming rights, which could be announced this weekend at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin.
Apple’s SVP of Services, Eddy Cue, recently discussed the fragmented sports streaming market, saying, “We’ve gone backwards” compared to cable and hinting that Apple’s solution involves “more bundling.”
Cue also noted that Apple “loves F1” and highlighted the success of the F1 movie, the highest-grossing sports film ever. The deal could reportedly lead to the shutdown of F1.TV in the U.S., aligning with Apple’s goal to simplify sports streaming.
