Eufy´s camera users encouraged to film themselves pretending to be package thieves

AI may seem smart, but it really just matches patterns and needs lots of training data. To improve its theft detection, Anker’s eufy brand asked users in late 2024 to submit videos of package thieves or car-door checkers, paying $2 per approved clip (up to $40 per camera). Since many users didn’t have real crime footage, the company even suggested faking theft scenarios for training. While efficient, this raises questions about whether staged clips are as effective as real ones in reducing false positives.
