Instagram and Facebook are breaking the EU’s illegal content rules

The European Commission has found that Facebook, Instagram and TikTok are violating the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA) over issues like illegal content handling, moderation and transparency. Meta is accused of using “dark patterns” that make it harder for users to report or appeal content decisions, while both Meta and TikTok restrict researcher access to public data. The companies could face fines of up to 6% of their global revenue unless they address the violations before the final ruling.
