New Google Messages tool makes it harder for scammers to reach you

Google is rolling out new anti-scam tools in Messages to help users spot suspicious texts. The highlight is Key Verifier, a feature that confirms whether a message is truly from your contact by verifying each device’s unique encryption key through a QR code scan.

While the process is manual, it adds an extra layer of protection against impersonation or hijacked accounts. Google has also made links in flagged spam messages inactive, showing a warning instead of opening them — preventing users from accidentally clicking on malicious sites.
