OpenAI is testing direct messaging features in ChatGPT’s mobile app

OpenAI appears to be preparing a direct messaging feature for the ChatGPT mobile app, according to code found in the latest Android beta (v1.2025.273).

Engineer Tibor Blaho discovered that users may soon be able to send DMs, share individual responses or full chats and block others — marking the first major social feature in ChatGPT. Group chats may also include multiple GPTs, potentially enabling collaborative conversations between users and bots.

While still early in development and lacking personal chat history integration, the feature could make ChatGPT more social and engaging — similar to OpenAI’s Sora video app, which already supports sharing AI creations with friends.
